Kenne and bell supercharger on mustang?
Thinking of getting a twin screw for my 1996 gt mustang. Yes, I know, it is not the best nor most powerful stang, but it is what I have. I know I need to rebuild the engine, I am going to bet my transmission rebuilt, what else is there? I am thinking of having the supercharger at around 14 psi. Which according Kenne and bell .com, that is around 500+hp.
Besides the engine, transmission, and rear end. What else do I need to rebuild or replace?
this is a serious performance enhancement for your profile engine...which were rated stock at approx 215hp.
i'm sure if you read the kenne bell site you will find that the 14p.s.i. installation is not street legal (for offroad performance only)....additionally to run boost that high on your profile engine would require the engine be fully built out:
-stroker kit bottom end (low compression forged pistons, forged rods and bearings and likely forged crank....plus performance rings)
-top end , mild race cam plus performance heads
-fuel system enhancements (pump, injectors and fuel rails)
-driveline and rear end in addition to NEW race transmission (your rebuilt stock transmission will NOT handle the power) plus performance clutch (centerforce dfx or macleod)
-intercooler
in addition you require standard modifications, cold air intake, performance exhaust system, headers, better suspension and chassis upgrades (full length subchassis connectors-welded in not bolted in), wheel, tire and brake upgrades
all in including the supercharger installation would in the area of plus $15,000 including the pro shop time.
i think before you go further with your rebuild you should carefully research the cost and effectiveness of the installations you are considering.
quite frankly unless you can do the wrenching yourself it is more economic to purchase a mustang that has already been modified or purchase a later model / better profile than to undertake a major rebuild - performance project.
lastly i think the kenne bell site maybe overestimating HP gains based on 14 p.s.i. installation. likely they are extrapolating HP at the crank from the dyno test which yields rwHP. based on the accepted boost formula (p.s.i. of intallation divided by 1 BAR) 14 p.s.i on your engine would result in rated HP at the crank of approx 440hp.
i think you need to do lots of research and reading.....and understand fully the cost effectiveness of performance upgrades before you proceed.
