How come the equivalent of the Guardian on Sunday is called the Observer, not 'Sunday Guardian'?
Most of the Sunday versions of the broadsheets are just Sunday versions of their mid-week paper (e.g. Sunday Telegraph, Sunday Times etc.).
But the Sunday version of the 'Guardian' is called the 'Observer'. It seems like pretty much the same paper, but carries a different name.
Does anyone know the background to this?

I think it was the Observer first and then they somehow sort of merged and came under the same ownership. One of our better set of UK papers though, don't you agree?
