is it okay okay for friends of another color to make racial comments towards you?
My best friend is puerto rican and i am african american and she sometimes makes racial comments about me that I would find offensive if say a white person said it. She says she can say it because we're so close. Today i was wearing a long sleev shirt and is was ver hot out and she like aren't you hot in that? And ur complexion doesn't help either. she went on to add that blacks retain heat! she's joking but i don't really think its that funny. and i don't make fun of her heritage or skin color
Let her know it makes you uncomfortable. That you might be close, but it hurts to have a friend make comments like she does. I think she doesn't know how insensitive she is being, so I would give her a second chance. Once she knows it bothers you and says she's going to try to stop doing it, help her stop doing it. If she can't stop at all, then I'd suggest moving on. No one needs a friend who thinks of the other as their skin color instead of who they really are. You can't "be" a color, you know?
