Alphonse Elric question!?
Why, when, and how does Alphonse Elric lose his memory? A friend of mine told me that he loses his memory of what happened in Amestris when he passes through the gate in the FMA movie. Is that true? If so why and how does he lose it? Does he ever gain it back? Was it because he went through the gate that he lost his memory? Another friend of mine said that he lost his memory of what happened back at the underground city when they battled the homunculi (bc it traumatized him or something) so what is real and what is false? When did he lose his memory and how?
Your first friend was on the right track, but not quite there.
What it was, was that Edward is killed by Envy and Alphonse does human Alchemy to bring him back, offering his own soul for Ed's. Edward is revived with his human arm an leg and Al is gone, and when Rose tell him what happens, Edward decides to bring alphonse back at any cost, offering his body, mind and soul up to the trade.
The trade goes through, and basically time is rewound for Al. He is back in his body at the same age and state of mind he was in before the Human alchemy incident with his mother. But Ed is sent to our world unknowns to the world of Amestaris.
When Ed returns to Amestris briefly, he is reunited with Al, who is determined not to lose him again and sneaks into our world with his brother. Once he passes through the gate, he remembers everything
So that's the jist of it all. Watch out for the new FMA series that suspected to be starting up!
